A Mummy Makeover is a bespoke combination of restorative surgical procedures designed to address the physical changes that occur following pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. Rather than a single “cookie-cutter” surgery, it is a highly personalised plan—typically combining a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), breast enhancement (lift, augmentation, or reduction), and liposuction. This holistic approach allows patients to address multiple concerns simultaneously, correcting stretched abdominal muscles (diastasis recti), skin laxity, and loss of breast volume. By harmonising the contours of the torso and breasts, the procedure aims to help women regain their pre-pregnancy silhouette and boost self-confidence.
The Mummy Makeover is not a singular technique but a curated selection of procedures. The specific combination is tailored to your unique anatomy and aesthetic goals.

Step 1: The Abdominal Repair
Through a horizontal incision placed low on the pelvic bone (usually hidden by underwear), the surgeon tightens the internal muscles and pulls the skin taut, repositioning the belly button for a natural look.
Step 2: Breast Reshaping
Using the agreed-upon technique (Lift, Augmentation, or both), the surgeon restores the breasts to a more youthful height and volume. Incisions are closed with dissolvable sutures to ensure the smoothest possible transition.
Step 3: Refinement and Closure
Liposuction is used to "blend" the areas together, ensuring no harsh lines between the treated zones. The incisions are meticulously closed, and compression garments are applied immediately to stabilize the tissue.
Significant Fatigue: Your body is using a lot of energy to heal multiple sites; expect to feel very tired for the first 2 weeks.
Swelling & Bruising: Extensive across the midsection and chest, peaking at day 4.
Temporary Numbness: Reduced sensation around the navel and the breast/nipple area.
Tightness: A feeling of “restriction” in the torso when standing up straight or taking deep breaths.
Seroma/Haematoma: Fluid or blood collection in the breast pocket or the abdominal wall.
Minor Wound Dehiscence: Small areas of the incision (often at the “T-junction” of the tummy tuck) being slow to close.
Asymmetry: Minor differences in breast height or abdominal contour as the two sides heal at different rates.
Suture Spit: Internal stitches surfacing as small red bumps along the long incision lines.
Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT): Blood clots that can travel to the lungs (Pulmonary Embolism).
Skin Necrosis: Loss of skin along the tummy tuck or breast incision line (highest risk for smokers).
Major Infection: Requires hospital-grade antibiotics and potentially a return to theatre.
Umbilical (Belly Button) Issues: Loss of blood supply to the repositioned navel.
It is generally recommended to wait at least 3 to 6 months after you have completely stopped breastfeeding. This allows your breast tissue to settle, hormone levels to stabilise, and the glandular tissue to return to its resting state, ensuring the surgeon can make accurate assessments for a lift or augmentation.
A tummy tuck can remove stretch marks located on the lower abdomen (the skin below the belly button) that is excised during the procedure. Stretch marks on the upper abdomen or breasts will remain, though they may be pulled tighter and appear less prominent.
While it is physically safe to have children after surgery, a subsequent pregnancy will likely stretch the repaired muscles and skin, potentially undoing the results of the tummy tuck and breast lift. For the best long-term investment, it is advised to wait until your family is complete.
In most cases, the original C-section scar is completely removed as part of the skin excision during a full tummy tuck. The new surgical incision is typically placed in the same area—very low on the pelvic line—so it remains easily hidden by underwear or bikini bottoms.
This is a critical recovery factor. You should avoid lifting anything heavy (including toddlers) for at least 4 to 6 weeks. Straining can cause internal sutures in the abdominal wall to tear or lead to complications like seromas, so having childcare support is essential during the initial weeks.
It is best to be at or near your goal weight before surgery. Significant weight loss after a Mummy Makeover can lead to new skin laxity, particularly in the breasts and abdomen, which may require a secondary "touch-up" procedure to tighten the skin again.
All surgery results in some scarring. However, incisions are strategically placed: the abdominal scar is low enough to be hidden by swimwear, and breast scars are placed in the natural fold or around the areola. Over 12 to 18 months, these typically fade from red to a faint white line.
Yes, for the right candidate. Combining procedures reduces the total number of times you undergo general anaesthetic and offers a single recovery period. During your consultation, we assess your BMI and general health to ensure your body can safely manage the combined operative time.
Due to the comprehensive nature of the surgery, most patients stay in the hospital for 1 to 2 nights. This allows our clinical team to manage your initial pain, monitor for any immediate complications, and ensure you are mobile and comfortable before returning home.
While the results are long-lasting, your breasts will continue to age naturally. Factors like gravity, significant weight fluctuations, and hormonal changes will affect their shape over time, but they will always look firmer than if the surgery had never been performed.
A "mini" makeover usually involves a mini-tummy tuck (addressing only the area below the navel) and perhaps liposuction. A "full" makeover involves muscle repair (diastasis recti), significant skin removal, and breast rejuvenation, offering a more dramatic transformation.
Temporary numbness is very common after surgery as the nerves settle. While sensation usually returns within 6 to 12 months, there is a small risk of permanent changes in nipple or abdominal skin sensitivity, which will be discussed in detail during your consent process.
