Skin Cancer

Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) and Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC)

Skin cancer is the abnormal and uncontrolled growth of skin cells, typically triggered by DNA damage from ultraviolet (UV) radiation through sun exposure or tanning beds. The most common types are Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) and Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC), which tend to be slow-growing and localised, while Melanoma is a more aggressive form that develops in pigment-producing cells and has a higher risk of spreading to other parts of the body. Treatment generally involves surgical excision to remove the malignant tissue along with a safety margin of healthy skin, ensuring the cancer is fully cleared while reconstructing the area to preserve as much function and aesthetic appearance as possible.
