Scar Revision for Children

Scar Reconstruction for Children

Scar Revision for Children is a specialised procedure aimed at improving the appearance and function of scars resulting from trauma, surgery, or burns as a child’s body continues to grow. Because paediatric skin is highly elastic and under constant tension from physical growth, scars in children are more prone to becoming widened, thickened (hypertrophic), or “contracted,” which can sometimes restrict movement or pull on developing facial features. The surgical approach focuses on techniques that redirect tension, such as a Z-plasty and W-plasty, to ensure the scar matures into a fine, soft line that harmonises with the child’s natural growth patterns, often utilising dissolvable stitches and advanced silicone therapy to achieve the most discreet long-term result.
