Lipomas
Fatty lumps (lipomas) and cysts are common, benign growths that develop under the skin but differ in their composition and feel. A lipoma is a slow-growing mass of fat cells that feels soft, doughy, and moves easily when pushed, typically found on the shoulders, neck, or trunk. In contrast, a cyst is a firm, fluid-filled sac (often containing keratin or oil) that is usually tethered to the skin and may feature a small central opening known as a punctum. While both are generally harmless, they are often surgically removed if they become large, unsightly, or—in the case of cysts—prone to painful inflammation and infection.
