Mr Nakul Patel is a Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and Head of the Plastic Surgery Department at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. He is passionate about restoring form and confidence through reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, specialising in major reconstructive surgery, breast reconstruction, skin cancer and cosmetic surgery.
He trained at St Bartholomew’s and The Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry and received world-class training in plastic surgery around the UK and North America, completing six prestigious fellowships, including Cosmetic Surgery, Laser, Skin Cancer, Breast Reconstruction and Microsurgery.
He is passionate about innovation in the medical field and being at the forefront of new techniques, materials and technologies that improve patient care. He is the author of medical textbooks, book chapters and is currently writing ‘Core Surgical Procedures at a Glance: Plastic Surgery’, a textbook to help train junior plastic surgeons.
His enthusiasm has led him to be the Co-Lead for Innovation for the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS), as well as a NHS Clinical Entrepreneur with NHS England. He gained numerous prizes for research papers and innovations and was a Lecturer at the University of Manitoba, Canada. At present, he is in the process of inventing new surgical instruments to improve patient outcomes. He is also a Trustee for LOROS hospice which supports terminally ill patients.
